Call our Cat Helpline at 661-276-9377 to schedule an appointment to surrender your feline to MEOW co. You may bring your feline to our main center - CatCom in Bakersfield, CA.
  1. A driver's license or other government issued ID.
  2. Your pet's surrender form. Complete the surrender form below and print it out. If you do not have access to a printer, please notify our staff during your appointment so they can pull up your form submission. Our goal is to find a happy home for every healthy and treatable animal, which we can achieve by knowing more about the animals that come into our care.
  3. Your feline’s veterinary records.
  4. Your feline's surrender fee: $50. The cost to care for and re-home pets can be hundreds of dollars for each feline. We ask for a surrender fee to help subsidize this cost. The fee is non-refundable and is not dependent on the outcome you choose for your feline after its evaluation.
Your appointment will take approximately 30-45 minutes and will include a health exam and behavior evaluation of your feline. After we've gathered information about your feline and the animal exam and evaluation are completed, we'll discuss your options with you so you can make the best decision for your feline. Please note that MEOW co. is an selective-admission organization that accepts felines on a per vacancy availability. As a result, not all animals are able to be placed for adoption, and humane euthanasia may be considered in some cases.

Why do I need to make an appointment to bring in a feline?

In order to ensure resources are ready and available when a pet arrives, MEOW co. requires a scheduled surrender appointment. Without an appointment process, we would have no control over the number of felines that come into our care each day, and our ability to provide the best possible care for each feline would be hindered.

Does MEOW co. waive any surrender fees?

Yes - if your feline meets all appropriate behavior and health evaluations, and is Spayed/Neutered + Current on Rabies Vaccinations (with certificates), our staff will waive the $50 surrender fee upon intake.

What if I don't want to make an appointment?

If you don't want to schedule an appointment, we will refer you to other rescues and shelters or provide rehoming information to help you rehome your feline yourself.

What types of pets does MEOW co. accept?

MEOW co. provides services for cats and kittens. We do not accept canines, rabbits, birds, exotic pets (such as reptiles, large birds like cockatoos and amazons) or livestock (such as chickens, pigs, and goats). If you have an exotic pet or livestock, we can refer you to a rescue or other resource that might be able to help.

Does MEOW co. accept strays?

No - due to limited space, we can not quarantine stray felines.

Can I find out what happens to my pet after it's surrendered to MEOW co.?

Yes. If you contact MEOW co., we'll let you know if your feline was adopted or placed with a rescue partner. However, we will not share adopter contact information or details about the rescue partner to which your pet is transferred. Last year, more than 95 percent of the felines in our care were placed in homes, reunited with owners, or released to other animal welfare organizations. MEOW co. has not euthanized a healthy animal for any reason, and there is no time limit for felines in our care. If we determine your feline cannot become healthy or suitable for placement, and euthanasia is the most humane option, you may reclaim your feline.
